GLITCH: The Early Days of the Internet | MFA Open Studios

Friday 6th October, 7:00pm

Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design of Georgia State University, 10 Peachtree Center Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30303
The Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University is excited to announce its annual MFA Open Studios event. For this multi-floor, multi-building event, M.F.A. students in Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Ceramics, Textiles, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Sculpture, and Photography welcome the public in to visit their spaces.

Guests have the opportunity to roam the halls of our school, dropping into student studios for exclusive looks at in-process work and conversations about our artists and designers' practices. Larger classrooms and exhibition spaces in our building will house multi-media installations and video-art screenings. Each year, our B.F.A.s eagerly participate in the event, exhibiting and selling their own work from their senior portfolio. This year's theme is "GLITCH” and we once again encourage dress that matches the vibe! The night will be DJ'd and the free bar and snacks will be served late into the evening.

Our annual Open Studios event is a party during which we get to celebrate the work our students create and the fresh energy they bring to the regional art scene. Meet emerging artists, see demos, buy work, and take part in the second annual Atlanta Art Week!

During Atlanta Art Week, the Welch School Gallery will feature simultaneous solo exhibitions by photographers Tanyth Berkeley (New York City) and Jimmy Fike (Avondale, Arizona). Berkeley's tender street portraits and Fike's images of ephemeral North American edible plants reverberate with themes of environmental justice, the climate crisis, and the commons. A reception will be held in the main lobby during the M.F.A. Open Studio, and the gallery will be open for extended hours so that partygoers may visit the shows.
